What we do/Agriculture

Core pillar

Smallholder agriculture and rural livelihoods

Practical support so hill and mountain farms can produce more food, more of the year.

In remote villages of Sudurpashchim Province, especially in the hills and mountains, many subsistence farms produce enough food for less than six months of the year.

Farmers face land fragmentation, declining soil quality, pest pressure, limited pest-control systems, climate change, and unpredictable weather. Agricultural technologies, training, and stronger rural livelihoods are the practical response.

Why this work

Subsistence farming communities in remote villages in Nepal, particularly in the hills and mountains of Sudurpashchim Province, produce enough food for less than six months a year.

These farmers struggle with land fragmentation, declining soil quality, increasing pest infestations, lack of pesticide control systems, climate change, unpredictable weather, and reduced agricultural productivity. Many youths leave in search of jobs; some want to migrate permanently.

Support with agricultural technologies, training, and environmentally sustainable farm-based entrepreneurship will help communities secure household food security and keep the rural population intact.

Intended activities under this pillar will be published as programs are designed with partner communities.

Help keep rural communities intact

Scholarships, stronger farms, and local enterprise depend on people who choose to give.
